Welcome to AJ Dance!
AJ Dance was founded in 2004 when Mrs Stanwell (of the Stanwell School of Dance) retired from teaching and passed the school to her daughter Alison Noble. Ably assisted by her daughter - Josie Clarke, the school was renamed AJ Dance. Alison’s family have been teaching dancing in Boston since the late 1920s, when Mrs Stanwell’s aunt was Principal and Teacher of the Boston School of Dance. Clare Allen joined the teaching staff in September 2012, followed by Alison's eldest daughter, Chloe Watson, in May 2013.
The Friendly, Family Run School
AJ Dance prides itself on its professional teaching staff and friendly atmosphere. All students are recognised as individuals, however, each pupil is treated fairly, equally and given the same opportunities. Whilst pupils learn to dance as a hobby, they are provided with the necessary training should they wish to dance as a career in later life. It is of paramount importance that all students enjoy the social aspects of dancing - having fun and making new friends - whilst maintaining the excellent standards for which the school is well known.
There are many classes on offer which include a wide variety of styles: Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft, Musical Theatre, Freestyle, Line Dance, Salsa, Riverdancing, Belly Dancing, Zumba and Burlex Fitness. All classes are very reasonably priced, offering excellent value for money and are less expensive than a number of dance/theatre schools within the area.
All ages and abilities are welcome. Children are
accepted from the age of 3 years (boys are very welcome too!) There is
no upper age limit to learning at AJ Dance.
AJ Dance pupils regularly achieve outstanding exam results which are consistent in every class throughout the school. The school currently has a
100% pass rate. Examination sessions (conducted by external examiners) are held throughout the year with the
British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) and the International Dance
Teachers Association (IDTA). In 2010 AJ Dance were awarded with a Certificate of Merit from the Theatre Dance Council International. All pupils
have the opportunity to take examinations and medal tests in the subjects they
In addition to medals and trophies earned through examinations, the school offers a special range of awards to encourage achievement. These awards cover areas such as attendance, improvement and self presentation.
Shows and Dance Displays
Shows are performed when possible and the school is regularly asked to perform dance displays and provide entertainment at various local events. Again, all pupils are given the opportunity to participate and the dazzling costumes add sparkle and glitz to these occasions. Thousands of pounds have been raised over the last six years for various causes including The Alzheimers Society and Pilgrim Hospital. The school's 5th year anniversary production in July 2009 raised £3000 for the Marie Curie Rapid Response Team and The St Barnabas Hospice.
